Privacy Policy

i·CANTO (“i·CANTO,” “we,” “us”) is a language-learning app that helps you learn a language through song lyrics. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Information we collect

  • Account information: your email address, and a securely hashed password if you sign up directly, or your email and basic profile info if you sign in with Google.
  • Learning activity: the songs you look up, chat messages you send, saved vocabulary, and conjugation history. This is core to how the app works and is tied to your account.
  • Usage analytics: we use PostHog to understand how the app is used so we can improve it.
  • Technical data: standard server logs and cookies needed to keep you signed in securely.

2. How we use your information

  • To operate the app and provide the features you use.
  • To communicate with you (e.g. a welcome email or an email verification link) via our email provider, Loops.
  • To understand usage patterns and improve the product.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Third-party services

To provide the app's features, we share limited data with:

  • OpenAI: powers translations, grammar explanations, quizzes, and chat.
  • ElevenLabs: generates pronunciation audio.
  • Spotify, LRCLIB, and Deezer: used to look up song lyrics and album art.
  • Google: if you sign in with Google.
  • PostHog: product analytics.
  • Loops: account-related emails.
  • Neon (Postgres) and Vercel: host our database and application.

Each of these providers has its own privacy practices governing the data they process on our behalf.

4. Data retention & deletion

We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you'd like your account and associated data deleted, email us at cody@icanto.tech and we'll take care of it.

5. Children's privacy

i·CANTO is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll update the effective date above when we do.
